Meal Plans, Prices and Procedures

Lunch

Lunch is served cafeteria style in Hall.

- Monday to Friday: 12.00pm to 1.30pm

Please note that we offer a meat-free menu on Mondays as part of our sustainability efforts.

Booking is not required for lunch in Hall. 

Dinner (Informal Hall)

In Trinity Term 2024, Informal Hall will be served from 5.00pm - 6.15pm due to events taking place throughout term. Served cafeteria style in Hall.

Please note that we offer a meat-free menu on Wednesdays as part of our sustainability efforts.

Booking is not compulsory for Informal Hall, but we encourage you where possible to let us know when you plan to attend so that we can reduce food waste as much as possible. You will not be turned away from Informal Hall if you have not booked. Payment for Informal Hall is taken at the till, not when you book.

Formal Hall

Formal Hall is a three course, fully-served meal starting promptly at 7.10pm. In Trinity Term Formal Hall takes places once a week, on Sunday.

Gowns must be worn with appropriate clothing.

Undergraduates must book for Formal Hall using the Pembroke Meals App.  Booking for all meals closes at 10am on Thursday of the previous week.

Takeaway Options

Please tell the serving staff that you would like a takeaway when you get to the main counter. Takeaway containers are not provided - please bring a clean reusable container with you.

Takeaway meals are only available during Informal Hall and Lunch. We are not able to serve takeaway meals during Formal Hall.

Meals are either covered by a pre-paid meal plan (see more below), or you can pay-as-you-go by topping up your Main Account 'wallet' on the Pembroke Meals app. We do not take credit or debit card payments in Hall.

Meal Plan Basics

Meal Plan credit can be used freely throughout term-time to pay for:

Hall lunch and dinner

- Charged according to food selections (no fixed meal charge)
- Must be pre-booked on Pembroke Meals
- No requirement to book a minimum or maximum no. of meals per week

Orders in Farthings Café

- Includes pastries, bagels hot food and drinks drinks, and retail items (pre-packed sandwiches, bottled drinks etc.)

Special Formal Halls (see more on Formals below)

When you run out of meal plan credit you can top up your 'Main Account' wallet on Pembroke Meals and continue to use your new credit freely in Hall and Farthings.

Meal plan balance will not be carried over to the next term and must be used between weeks 1 and 8 of term.

Fresher Meal Plan

All first-year undergraduates take out a Fresher Meal Plan. 

- Price: £426.97 per term, which becomes credit on Pembroke Meals.
- Credit can be used for Hall lunch and dinner, special Formals, and purchase of items in Farthings.
- Includes 1 Formal Hall per week (8 across term) - automatically deducted from your balance. To help prevent food waste all diners must book in for Formal Hall via Pembroke Meals. No refunds will be issued for missed Formals.
- Cannot be used for guests - please top up your Main Account wallet on Pembroke Meals and pay-as-you-go.

In Michaelmas term, Freshers' battels will include an additional £57.00 for meals during Freshers’ week (Saturday dinner through until Thursday dinner inclusive).

Flexi Meal Plan

All returning undergraduates (non first-years) living on Main Site take out the Flexi Meal Plan.

Optional for returning students living offsite, and for graduate students.

- Price: £397.60, which becomes credit on Pembroke Meals.
- Credit can be used for Hall lunch and dinner, special Formals, and purchase of items in Farthings.
- Includes 4 Formals per term - automatically deducted from your balance. No refunds will be issued for missed Formals.
- To help prevent food waste all diners must book in for Formal Hall via Pembroke Meals.
- For onsite returners: cannot be used for guests - please top up your Main Account wallet on Pembroke Meals and pay-as-you-go.
- For offsite returners and graduates: can be used for guests

Mini Meal Plan

Optional for returning students living offsite and for graduate students.

- Price: £100, which becomes credit on Pembroke Meals.
- Credit can be used for Hall lunch and dinner, special Formals, and purchase of items in Farthings.
- Can be used for up to 4 optional Formals per term.
- To help prevent food waste all diners must book in for Formal Hall via Pembroke Meals.
- Can be used for guests

Guests

Guests are paid for with funds loaded to your Pembroke Meals Main Account (top-up) wallet, separate from your meal plan.

If you are bringing a guest please ensure you have sufficient funds on the Pembroke Meals app. If you intend to bring more than two guests on any evening, you are advised to check with the Events Team whether there is an event on which might lead to a restriction in numbers that evening.

Guests can be booked in for Formal Hall via Pembroke Meals by 10am on Thursday of the week before. Please inform the catering team of any dietary requirements by emailing pmbcateringadmin@pmb.ox.ac.uk.
